Multiple gables, turrets, dormers, and long valley runs are common on Mequon homes, and many were originally built with cedar shake. Converting a cedar roof to asphalt or metal is not a like-for-like swap. The decking under old shake is often spaced boards rather than solid sheathing, which means new decking over the top before anything else happens.
